My Background

Many people, including myself, struggled to find the engineering program that “fit” them the most. I had an interest in math, coding, and business, but wasn’t the best at any of them. I got accepted into UofT for the Materials Science Engineering (MSE) program, and quickly realized that it wasn’t for me. I spoke to my Intro to Engineering TA and told her about my dilemma and my interests. She told me about the INDY program, and I knew right away that that is where I belonged. At the beginning of 2nd year I transferred to INDY, and it was one of the best choices I’ve ever made.

I’m hoping that I can help you understand what the INDY program is really about, and that you can apply (or not apply) with a better understanding of it.

What is INDY?

Honestly, I hate this question because I never know how to answer it. But I’ll do my best! INDY (Industrial Engineering) can more or less be summarized by the word optimization, as most of what we learn drives us towards the end goal of making things faster, cheaper, and clearer. INDY focuses on several different topics with the ability to specialize in the second half of your undergrad, making it a jack-of-all-trades program. INDY students will learn about mathematical modeling, probability &…
